"In memory of my dear Nan, Fay Lennox -
September 11, 1919 to March 4, 2004.
With her watching over me how could I fail."
I MADE
IT!!!!!!!!!
4hr 28mins and 51 seconds - that's the time I took to complete the London
Marathon. I never hit the so-called wall, just felt better and better
throughout the run but am now feeling a bit uurrgghh!!
It was an amazing day, the crowd was absolutely deafening and the
camaraderie among the runners was amazing - it was a bit surreal at between
10 and 12 miles though as I got caught in the middle of a karaoke group who
were singing "I wouldn't walk 500 miles" by The Proclaimers.
I started virtually at the back of the field (did spot myself on telly when
watching the video afterwards) and then worked my way through. The first six
miles took about an hour and 20 minutes because the roads and after that I
got quicker and quicker as the roads got a bit wider and the runners thinned
out.
My parents came up for the day with and I managed to see them at the start,
by the Cutty Sark, just after Tower Bridge and running along the embankment
at 25 miles. My best mate Andrew (pictured with me above) also came up and
ran alongside me for a couple of miles near Canary Wharf.
What more can I say - I can't believe I have completed the London Marathon
(although I do have a medal and a bit of leg pain so I definitely did). The
memory will live with me forever, or at least until next April when the
nerves kick in again as I prepare for my second one!!!
